The Village of Aviston is seeking applicants to fill the position of Chief of Police, which will be vacant effective April 3, 2020. Candidates will be expected to provide professional, hands-on leadership and management while building strong communications/relationships with the Aviston Village Board, current police officers, and most importantly the community.
Although the following criteria are the requirements of this position, candidates with a different level of education, experience, or military service, who can demonstrate a high level of competency and have experience with police department management as well as State and Federal reporting requirements, officer training and testing and department policy are encouraged to apply.
• Must possess a college-accredited degree in Law Enforcement, Administration of Justice, Police Administration, Criminal Justice or a closely related field.
• Be an Illinois Certified Police Officer.
• Be able to establish residency within the municipal Village limits within 12 months (1 year) of being hired.
• Be able to satisfactorily pass a background check and drug test prior to hiring.
• Must be able to attend Village Board meetings once monthly, or as required by the Board.
• Note: Candidate will also have other requirements for career certifications and formal trainings.
