Ameren customers within the Village of Aviston should have received a letter in the mail from Constellation regarding the Village of Aviston’s Municipal Aggregation Electricity Program. The purpose of the aggregation program is to hedge pricing for electricity supply against unforeseen rate increases from the Ameren by locking in an energy supply rate from another supplier in a joint effort with other municipalities in the surrounding area. If you recall the Ameren rate spike in 2022, there was a heightened demand for the Village of Aviston to offer an alternative energy supplier, as other neighboring towns already had in place. As such, after several years of foregoing the municipal aggregation program, the Village joined various other municipalities and agreed to a contract through Good Energy with Constellation. Unfortunately, the timing of this contract was executed when energy supply rates were at an all-time high, and except for a few limited circumstances, the aggregation rate didn’t prove beneficial for many customers.
This contract recently came up for renewal, which has prompted the letters you received today. The latest pricing provided by Constellation for $0.0832 per kilowatt hour (kw/h) is valid from December 2024 through May 2025. Compared to Ameren’s published rate for October 2024 through May 2025 ($0.0809 for the initial 0-800 kw/h and $0.0756 for any use in excess of 800 kw/h), the contract rate through Constellation is higher for all circumstances. However, while you may opt out from the automatic enrollment by following the instructions in the letter; any attempt to enter into the aggregation program is subject to a 12-month waiting period (Note: The automatic enrollment is a requirement via the State of Illinois for municipal aggregation programs). Both Ameren and Constellation rates are subject to change after May 2025, your decision to opt-in or opt-out will automatically continue into June 2025. While you are subject to a 12-month waiting period to re-enter the aggregation program, you may remove yourself from the program at any time without penalty.
If you have any questions that are not addressed by this notice or within the FAQ sheet provided with the opt-out letter, you may contact Constellation (833-618-0296) or Good Energy (844-686-4244) directly.
